Perhaps it sound dumb to you because, maybe you can't understand anything beyond stupidity? History is evident of people hiding knowledge from general public like secret societies, exclusive knowledge(60's nuclear tech and info being classified and restricted) ancient civilizations, occult practices, and esoteric teachings etc. Magic is potent and knowledge is power, I just gave one probability based on that.
