They did not have the same kind of shell a snail would have, but two shells on each side of it that acted as wheels allowing the slug to move faster by propelling itself by spinning the shells. When protecting itself, it would shrink its body down, and the two shells would then close up around it, making it hard to finish it off.

Whether it was done on purpose or subconsciously, Ai's sword had hit its mark in more ways than one.
