I love spicy female leads and cool, detached male leads. Or vice versa. I love foxes and magic. And face slaps. Lots and lots of face slaps.

As far as I can tell, the “First Wife” is both sequential and a title for the main/legitimate wife. Madam Xie was the (chronologically) first wife as well as the legitimate main wife. Madam Yang is the (chronologically) second First Wife. Her daughter (Jianjia) will always be of lower position than Youyao. Add to that, Madam Xie is di born (legitimate) and Madam Yang is shu (concubine) born. Madam Xie, despite being from a merchant family is still of higher status than Madam Yang who is from a scholarly family.
Are we reading the same novel? Because all of the vituperation about the ML being awful and the FL being awful…I just don’t get. They are characters in a made up world with very different mores than modern/Western views. Maybe I’ve just read too many old (e.g., 1970s and 1980s and 1990s) romance novels but I am, personally, not offended. If it upsets you, don’t read it. Let those of use who enjoy it do so. Please stop with the mini-essays of your different views of feminism. Chapter Comments is not the forum.
Country girl. Grew up having to be wary of Rattlesnakes and Copperheads. Also had a fascination with “Kaa,” ”Nag,” “Nagaina,” and “Sir Hiss.”
Sure, when the translator stops screwing them up.
I didn’t say they HAD to match just that the mismatch was confusing.
Muslin, is a thin cotton fabric frequently used for early versions of a dress, lining, or very lightweight dresses/underclothes. It is cheap and not high quality.
Well, as of Chapter 861, Nie Heng (Yan) is being all pathetic and and his adopted sister is ignoring him…
Biting Red Lips. There are a couple of Chinese sites, one has ads that make my eyes pop out and bleed. I should probably was them out with soap to clean my retinas. You can also check out the seventeenth letter of the English alphabet x 2. It has ties to a major Chinese drama network starting with “T”.
*********SPOILER********* ********************** She IS the lost daughter but there is a massive conspiracy to keep her from finding out the truth or the Xiao Family from finding her. And the “Dean” of the orphanage is a major player, and not in a good way. And pretty much no one is the actual biological child of their acknowledged families. Nie Yan, First Master Cheng (Huo), Second Master Cheng (Huo), and (possibly) Eldest Miss Cheng (Huo) being the exceptions. Maybe Jiang Ye, but as of Chapter 861, besides his stated predilection for kink, he’s relatively normal, if a 💩🐭 b@stard.
Given “Young Uncle” has previously (not mentioned in the translated/released version yet) failed to succumb to aphrodisiacs after being drugged, I don’t think it was against his will. In the raws, he is drugged two more times (to date) and not succumbed. How is a little alcohol going to overwhelm his senses and control when banned drugs haven’t?
It gets waaay better! “Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles…” Okay, to be fair, there are no giants, just mutes and the monsters are all human. And a “giant”conspiracy! The FL truely comes into her own and the ML supports her but doesn’t swoop in to solve every problem. It also takes him a while to pull his head out of his anal sphincter.
Welp, assuming that butlers in this time & place are only male, Little Ya is male.
Nie Heng is, at least, loyal to his friends. Liu Ruishi is loyal only to herself. I would prefer Nie Heng to realize A) that he has been manipulated by the little white 🪷 Liu Ruishi, B) that he is nothing more than a convenient tool to Liu Ruishi, C) that he lost his “sister” due to his own stupidity and blindness; all so he can end up miserable and alone. I want to see Liu Ruishi be exposed for the manipulative 🐕 she is and be ostracized by everyone, and die miserable and alone. Ideally quickly, as I am tired of her already.
