Why even have him interact with humans then why not other non human as that contradicts the story line of nonhumans being treated like trash and even having trouble going to school or finding jobs

The issue with that is that like in real life you would have that conversation early in the relationship not after you are married and with kids because that would be an absolutely horrid thing to do to your partner or have done to you if the book can’ t use common sense and logic then it is objectively a bad book
