Status, wealth, and appearance obsession is over the top in this novel! It has almost everyone overestimating themselves and underestimating others based on superficial factors.

Good question. Probably during the Westernizing of this story, they were doing a find and replace of names but missed this one since that doesn't work if there's a typo...just my guess.

He is also being a fool and doormat. Even if he isn't going to flex and show off his wealth, he seems to think that poverty means no self-respect or dignity. The fact is, quiet dignity and self-possession often come from having nothing because a person learns their true worth. He treats himself cheaply, so others do the same. That's not about money. It's about mindset. I hope his character evolves.

The premise of this novel is interesting, but it's painful to read so far because the MC is kind of unlikable, and most of the other characters are some combination of manipulative, shallow, and nasty.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Alex is insane because he goes to conduct business looking out of place. He's not on campus, so it's just slovenly. Getting a new outfit at Walmart won't make him look rich, but won't draw negative attention.

The themes of gold digging and shallowness are laid on unbelievably thick in this novel. Hopefully, some more normal people will make an appearance.
