what paint does is absorb all light expect one color that it reflects. so red paint doesn’t produce red light like a bulb would it absorbs all the other light beside red leaving red the only one to reflect. this is why when you combine the primary colors you get black because all wave lengths of light are absorbed leaving none to reflect off.
