Wanted to present him with an illogical situation, something otherwise outside his view of reality. As far as he’s concerned Bane isn’t human and what’s happening shouldn’t be possible, (the fear he’s feeling and the things he’s watching.) In his head he’s trained all this time and was basically at the pinnacle. Other than Uriah and him sparring he has no real understanding of strength. (A child’s understanding) Hell, even Uriah held back considerably unknown to him.
