Etans, bodyguard told him before they were married to not think only he has the answers. He seems to believe only he knows what's best, but he told Etan to always work with Ayleth, not try to do it all himself. Apparently, Etan didn't take that advice to heart, and that's how they ended up here. Hopefully, he realizes that this is what his friend was talking about, and doesn't make this same mistake again. I think that's what he realized when Ayleth laid into him when they met up again. He realized that what he did made things worse, which I'm thinking was her mothers goal. I'm not sure she really has that power to kill Ayleth, she was just trying to get Etan away from her daughter. Why Ayleth is still alive is definitely suspicious as to whether the spell is real or not.

Wonder what's going to happen when rift an finds out maxi is back to learning magic? Probably going to be a fight here. Hope he learns he can't keep her in a cage forever to protect her. He needs to think what could happen to her if he dies? She would be in danger then anyway. He doesn't know about her father, though. So maybe that's what he's counting on in case he dies, she can go back there. Boy, if he finds out differently, he's going to have a big wake up call!

Very good so far. Can't wait to read more! Good character development . can't wait to see what happens next with Maxi and Riftan's relationship.
