I wish I'd read the reviews and learned about the infamous chapter 546 before starting this novel. The author did so much work on the world and the plot. So many things were set up - the purple talent child, the circuit formations, the guild/empire competition, Roan and the Shadow Reapers, the empire succession, the mystery behind the emperors' condition, how he'd force the competition for the throne, the war with Chrole... Literally right up to that chapter things were still being set up, a new character was introduced to reinforce the empire plot, an ally was found for the war with Chrole. Then rocks fall and everyone dies. No resolution to any of that, none of it meant anything. We could have spent 545 chapters with the main characters fighting demon beasts in a random forest to get to their cultivation, then teleported them off planet and the result would have been the same. What was the point of any of it? Why keep reading and risk that the author will just get bored of his own story again and reset it zero in another 500 chapters? I'm still processing my disappointment, but I think the last time I felt so much of because of a work of fiction was Game of Thrones Season 8.
