Purely objectively you are correct but the problem is that from the readers perspective the moment he sees allot of enemies he runs away. And you may tell us he knows he can't win but that power he rarely truly conveyed to the reader. you should try to help your reader see the enemies strength some before he has to run so its not on sight all the time.
