It's to indicate a jump in location or setting. They don't count as characters or words, so I find it ideal as to not pump up the word count. But you're right, I probably could have done with a bit less 😅

Well, he doesn't team up with him, he's just taken against his will, and for some unknown reason by Core. He doesn't become his companion at all, in fact, they actually split up at chapter 8. Though I understand if it's not your cup of tea. This was my first go at writing, so it's understandable that people wont like it. 😅

Well, I'd say after the time skip, which is at chapter 13 the MC becomes much smarter than he is in the pre-timeskip. There is 1 part after the time skip where he's too complacent but makes up for it instantly. After that, I'd say he's much more methodical. *Spoiler alert for the next part, I'll be summarizing what happened pre timeskip* Pretty much what happens is his village is attacked and his sister died protecting the village. The villagers and her brother lived, however that wasn't the end of them. The attack was actually done by their country, Orthlys to put the blame on Econica, the neighboring country, as an excuse to start a war. The Orthlys soldiers kill all of the villagers, and Rein loses his arm fighting the prince of Orthlys. He managed to escape, the leader of the original group who was hired to attack his village having survived his sisters attack, helped him escape. While he resented being in his presence, he couldn't do anything in his current state. He took him to get his arm fixed then disappeared, leaving the MC and Emria, another survivor, with a middle aged mand and his daughter. Rein starts leveling his system and becoming stronger, and eventually, it leads us to chapter 13, which is the time skip.

Yeah, fair enough I guess 😅. I see a lot of my inexperience in these earlier chapters. Though I think I was trying to show a progression in character from a careless main character to a more methodical one in the future. I wanted a close call that would teach him that, and this is what I opted for. I think I could've executed it a little better, but it's too late now 😅. Just out of curiousity, what chapter did you read up to? Because id say onlt the first 13 or so chapters are like that. A lot of writing issues are fixed afterwards and story progression as well. Also, when i say that The mc is 10 years old, i dont mean his physical abilities. he can topple a tree with a single swing, so thay wouldnt make any sense. I’m talking about his mental state, he clearly wouldnt have the same kind of life experience that a teen or an adult would have, making him perhaps make the wrong choices in certain scenarios. I understand that that puts a lot of readers off, which is something ive learned from for future novels That i may start.
