If he does decide to not participate in the battle, I'm sure the cohort will understand, but still be mad at him, or they'll feel betrayed by him. Especially if something goes wrong. Plus, what will happen to Neph if he decides to stop becoming a "slave" to her? Will there be some sort of violent pain that tears away at her because he broke the bond between their souls? (A bit extreme, but everything has to do with pain, so there has to be a painful consequence somehow)

That's some interesting wording. Maybe the Spell was created to help people change fate, and the Nightmares were made to not only teach them how to change fate, but also make them stronger? Maybe? Just an Idea.

I thought that if Soul Stealer had split his soul into all of those people, wouldn't her killing them also affect Soul Stealer and not only dwindle his army, but also destroy his soul? Or does Soul Stealer control them in some other way?
The worst part about slaughtering these hollow vessels was that they were just that — vessels. There were no souls inside the bodies of the taken warriors, and so, he was not growing stronger from killing them.
