I really wish there was some kind of notification when people left comments. I miss so many of these. Sorry for the late reply, that is the reason. Thank you for the well thought out comment as well. I actually do understand your point of view on this matter. I just don't agree with it. Let's view it from the self-insert point of view even. If I envision myself as the ML of a story, why would I want to be shackled to a FL that doesn't want me? If I wrote that version of the story it would bother me, and I'm sure a few others that picked up on it. I could have also simply not made her care if she could get stronger with other people. That too is limiting because it takes away a part of who the FL is. She isn't the type of person to just do something without a reason, even if that reason is one that others won't always like. So, that is the majority of the reasoning behind the choice. What we are left with is a fully informed FL who truly loves the ML. She denied it and ran from it briefly but in the end, she accepted and embraced it. I would much rather be the guy with that girlfriend than the guy whose girlfriend is only with him out of obligation or need.

Elliot walked into the woods with a newfound sense of urgency. Sheree was close, and she was alone. With every step he took, he scanned the area to his right and his left.
