I think keeping them as optional chapters is good. I don't want the story to be affected by Yuan "relieving" his earthly desires. Besides sometimes I read these chapters in public.😂

The story is told from a male perspective and doesn't deeply develop any of it female characters. They are all give superficial, shallow motives and personality traits. Whether because they aren't integral to the plot or simply given these traits to further move the storyline along. There is not one respectable female introduced into the story. The fact that I have to try so hard to ignore this to enjoy the story is a shame in and of itself.

I'm getting really tired of this author talking about *** so much. The way he expresses thoughts about subjugating women makes me want to throw up. And I'm a 34 year old man. Keep to the actual story!

This book is great and the author seamlessly blinds two worlds to make an epic story. There a lot of Chinese cultural, pop culture, and political references, which might be a little shocking for Western readers. The footnotes help with the many allusions.
