Same! I'm American so I have to change it all from my units to the ones most people use. đ
This is a fair criticism, back at this point I was way less experienced as a writer and thought that I would make a 20 chapter novel. The novel is now 103 chapters long and far slower.
Do you really want to go through several chapters of the protag learning to walk?
He is thinking, using 'these' denotes thinking, and using "these" denotes speaking.
He assumes that it's his mom since she is one of two females he has ever seen and the other one is not present.
Yes, but he is insanely smart because he has 40 years of experience as a human, albeit without all of the inconsequential memories like family or friends.
Nah, this isn't a nod to the title, awaken is just another word for wake up and Ingen was asleep for days.
What about this is third person?
The previous paragraph is dialogue, one does not speak in the past tense.
The prologue took place on a different planet, there are no characters to tell the story from other than Shen/Ingen. The third-person perspective was chosen for the prologue so the reader could see the thoughts of everyone they needed to, the rest of the story does not need this.
:)
Nah, Ingen knows how to skin and gut a deer, not how to pudding deer blood.
She was with the Constables from the beginning. Originally she planned to make an 'accident' out of Ingen, which is where you see the aggression in the beginning. Then, out of the blue, the king changed her orders and she had to make nice with Ingen so she could steal his ideas. Then her orders changed again once the king decided that he had enough of Ingen's inventions and was going to assassinate him.
If it seems non-sensical, that's because it is. Ingen is going through the motions right now with no idea what's going on. Also, if you notice, I made Laura too attached to Ingen (even when he ignores her completely she still pretends to see him favorably) to foreshadow her trying to steal Ingen's work, and the "rebellion" (which will be named later in the story), is going to hold a role in the future.
Fair, I still wanted to point it out though
DEATH FLAG!
