So just a thought..... Vlad had angel wings that turned to bat wings. As fat as we know Mama Constance did have wings but she was pure of heart, even though she may have done unholy things to survive. So Cal inherited that pure heart and the angel wings but he sinned like his mama so his wings are black because of his sins. If Maddy is able to purify him of those sins his wings will turn back to white. He only sinned when it was a question of his life or death or the lives of those he cared for. A means to survive in the dog eat dog world of Devon's hierarchy. No pun intended sorry Beth
