Well...if you have money, you can license the story although there will be many negotitations involved. It is quite costly from what I heard. If the company somehow took your story and not pay, you can take them to court using the CCTV evidence to show you went to that company and find witnesses to prove your innocence. In my opinion, companies typically wouldn't steal your stories because they are already spending millions most of the time for these movies so why waste time on court for one storyline that may or may not even become successful? They might lose reputation as well whether they stole or not since general public already thinks that companies abuse their monetary power to get their way.
