My job is Fire Alarm technician I have been doing this line of work for 10 years. I test and maintain these systems. For a house (even a large one) if a sprinkler system was installed it would mostly be a "wet" system (water in the pipes under pressure). These pipes cover different areas or "zones" so if a fire broke out in 1 room than the sprinkler heads in that room would open under heat. If all the heads on that zone were to open and flood the whole area instead of that specific spot than the water damage would be way more than necessary.
Around the house, fire sprinklers started showering the unsuspecting residents, doors locked people in their rooms, sliders shut on the windows, and alarms blared on and off. - Duncan_20661mthCommented
