adding onto my comment from a couple paragraphs ago. what if it wasn't the machine but the person controlling it that was the target?

"The anomalous input our neural interface has captured presumably comes from the dwarf chieftain. The data we've received is completely incompatible with the neural interfaces of our mechs. This is probably another factor in the blessed ones abandoning their mechs. If the Dwarves can manipulate a mech like that then it can only make sense

wait... what if they're trying to repair and return the ship? whatever outfit actually managed to do so could possibly gain a leg up with the CFA
Ves found it kind of funny that the Vandals prioritized staying into the CFA's good graces even as they attempted to loot one of their crash-landed battleships.
