Well, the EDA generally deals with the Efflux Portals. However, some aliens may still manage to get away and wreak havoc while others (that are as smart as humans) may offer to help humans. For example, the Akash, hopefully that's not a spoiler...

(Spoiler!!) This gets explained in the following chapters but in short, the group was pulled into the rift that opened above the soccer field while Draven was pulled into the depths of his mind, there he faced something akin to a trial yes (that being said, it was not something done by choice, he was pulled into that space because he was reliving his childhood, albeit in a different settings.) His childhood will be discussed in detail later on.

The idea was to display how far humans may go in order to guarantee their survival. Here, the character was fearing and waiting for her inevitable death, so imagine her relief to find a way that could save her... human psychology is a weird thing...

I'm not sure what you're referring to. But Tony's powers right now only revolve around increasing the chance of something happening. For example, the probability of rain is about 40%, with his powers, he may be bake to increase that to 60% etc. does that make sense?
