True. Perhaps it would be better to say I'm surprised the MC's able to think coherently. That kind of abuse is straight up torture, and things like that can break a mind. Especially if it's over a prolonged period of time.

Makes sense for him to remember. It's different from reading where you can skim or read only once. Writing means you've probably read it a lot of times and planned it out. I remember a lot of things from my old stories, especially the geography since I put a lot of work into worldbuilding.

That's not a very smart deduction. Every piece of fiction is planned and coordinated by the author. Every mistake and victory by a character is for plot.
