I feel like Melrics approach being more beneficial to Maxi is almost another nod to the legend and the implication of her being some sort of manifestation of the maiden in the story, much like their sneaking off during the festival

I actually wasn't expecting the idea of sentient monsters to come into play in this story. Yay for world depth <3
