The problem is people don't understand what the novel is about. it's not about a ruthless manipulator mc. it may have started like that in the beginning, the mc gets attached to his friends. he is not the first priority for his friends, sure they care about him but he won't be their first priority. But mc goes above and beyond for his friends. he doesn't have a mighty goal for his own, but goes along with others's agenda. Mc is not shown as a treacheorous or scheming character apart from the initial chapters.

Trash. the novel has no real plot or world building. Even the trashy sign in novels try a little world building, but the novel has none. people liking the novel are the once who have seen some just ok romance, if you even call it that for the first time. it has tons of people calling mc trash, toad lusting over swan meat etc.

Unexpectly good. Didn't expect that. Translation quality is near flawless. Mc is a guy who will take minimal risks, he will seek stable cultivation rather than taking risk by seeking some treasure, if you can't handle it, don't read it. In the later parts, after the mc ascends(or gets the chance to but refuses) the world building becomes good. Mc maintains his cautious personality forever, not like other novels where mc's drop all caution after seeing a beauty. The 'emails' are interesting and the mc is a great master. Can't believe the author made reading the novel entertaining
