To respond to this I sadly read up to the point you mentioned and it didn’t get any better from chapter 40. If anything it gets worse. Side characters just dip when they lose relevance and are pretty much all shallow. There is not even an afterthought given to the people around him. This novel just seems like the work of an amateur.

Using a jagged edge against armor is just so stupid. Armor is worst against blunt weapons like clubs or thrust with like a spear. A saw like edge is like the worst idea especially on a dagger vs armor.
