I think he was making the same point you are. hes trying to say that the wording makes it seem more sinister when all hes really doing is some networking.

I think he should learn some genjutsu. it would really complement his style perfectly. For example, he can put his opponents in a genjutsu that hides the fact that his shadows are extending. or he can show a genjutsu of the shadows extending in a different direction to lead them to a trap. Genjutsu is an art that works best subtly and with a lot of ingenious creativity and tactics, all aspects that I feel embody shikamaru

Actually, a fun fact about diamonds is that they do degrade into graphite (because it is the more stable carbon config). They just have a very long half life of about 5,000 years if I remember correctly.

I see what you're trying...
If I had imagined before that using water magic on a plant was like giving it a gentle sprinkling I have been convinced with this attack. It's more like hurling a block of concrete at it. Unlike fire which causes damage by burning or electricity which zaps organism whilst also burning them, water doesn't seem to have any inherently harmful properties. It's important to remember though that when water is accelerated to sufficient speeds it becomes harder, more difficult to break up.
