I prefer the concept that magic has memory, that is, after these languages were used by people, who probably used them for powerful spells and later more people used these languages and adapted to them, magic adhered, giving the languages "power" and as time went on, it just wasn't ideal to change that.

There was a reason why people moved away from Latin and Old English. Words have power, and somehow these languages shaped magic, in a way. It was why the entirety of Europe which use wands, still use Latin spells. It was just more potent than any other common language to shape magic.
