"been there, done that".... no, seriously. this is a very similar description to what I felt like when I drowned as a kid. I had luck then, and I got rescued. after the fact that I already drowned, that is.

Correct me if I'm wrong... do they not have to go to spirit society first, before eventually entering the human world again as a "fresh soul" so to speak? From what I remember, they do not go directly into reincarnation and instead enter soul society first. even if thats with or without memorys(of which I don't remember but think it's without), to be reincarnated back to human world you'd essentially have to either die or be processed somehow in soul society. A good many times I remember them explaining it in vague ways during a konso, or whatever it was called, but they to my knowledge despite having helľ do not have a "heaven" aside from soul society itself. which makes sense since the soul king is basically "god" in that world. with restrictions in some places, of course.
