I was really surprised by the quality of the writing. I was expecting a clichéd cookie-cutter novel, but the writing was original and exciting. The fight scenes are detailed, the main character and supporting characters are not idiots as you would see in many clichéd novels - they are actually quite realistic in their choices and struggles, which is something to be appreciated. I really loved the references to other content, famous movies and novels, and liberal use of wise quotations. Apart from the overuse of one particular word in creating contrast, the writing is not particularly repetitive either (and if you can get past that one word, which is not very hard, it sort of becomes an inside joke).
