you are overthinking this. This is a world of magic where physics is ignored. In this same chapter, we are told that force is mass times acceleration. If that were true then for his damage output to double his mass would've had to double as well(or the shadow could've doubled his acceleration and in this case physics would be in play here) but we all know that shadows/darkness don't have mass, so clearly we can't view this through physics.
