Actually, I think the magic in Harry Potter *is* inexhaustible. The limitations come from other places: knowledge of spells, concentration and focus, stamina and physical strength (waving around a wand constantly will tire you, after all), as well as intent and emotional control. On top of all of this, there's talent; some magicals can innately channel more or less magic, and on top of that is precision and control of that magical energy, some of which comes from wand-waving, correct pronunciation, and the coordination between the two.
I don't mind the nerf so much as the timing. It seems like Lucian is the only one getting thrown around, stabbed and beaten up sometimes. His almost sudden death came too soon after the last mishap, and at the same time it was resolved far too quickly. Otherwise, keep up the good work, I'm really enjoying the story!
