I personally think people who have power want to preserve their power with immortality. If you live forever, but can't even have a full meal, what's the point of immortality? But if you're the emperor or a powerful sect leader, you definitely want to keep that power (or more!) forever.

I'd say it's a matter of possessiveness. He views Xiahou Jie as his belonging (?). Also, Xiahou Jie 14 while Yang Heng is 22 - that's definitely in the range of pedophilia. Maybe the translation is a bit off, but I wrote Yang Heng with the intention of him not truly liking Xiahou Jie as a person.

Haha, I swear there will be fewer fights from now on! This one is meant to set Jing Wen's state for the rest of the arc (and also because I got a little carried away). The assassins are sent by the Seventh Prince (from chapter 42). Gao Shu is cultivating at the otherside of the manor, since he still should be 'dead', and can be easily detected/seen if he was close to the main entrance. As for Zhou Aimin, he is someone without martial arts, so I didn't really take him into consideration - I'd he went to the Imperial Palace to congratulate Consort Li on the pregnancy (I will definitely fill in the plot hole in the next couple of chapters). But yeah, I definitely should have been more detailed on explaining why Jing Wen was alone against the assassination. Thanks for pointing it out!

I wrote Yang Heng to not view Xiahou Jie as someone he likes based on her personality and character, but only because she looks 'vulnerable' - something that completely contradicts her personality. TL:DR - Yang Heng doesn't really like Xiahou Jie. Also, he is like, ten years older than her.
