The author should follow the original, introducing them as they appear (the new things/people/etc) also using flashbacks and extras (like auxiliary chapters/images)

You can do that in many different ways, there are reasons why the original one already started with the game ending, for a good FF about Overlord you should always stick with that, I've never ever seen a good novel about Yggdrasil, why? causa no one cares.

this novel commits the same mistake as all the other Overlord novels do too much Yggdrasil and too little Overlord, and no one cares about the 'game world' part.

The only argument I can see is that 'Dante' is only his demon name, and his human name is 'Tony Redgrave', that would make sense. cause from what I remember (not much) contracts can only be signed by using the full/true name, and Dante signs as Tony Redgrave.

I don't think so, In the same way, Thor is called Odinson cause he is the son of Odin, and Dante is called the son of Sparda (many times) not only as a title but as a name, I'm pretty sure Sparda is his name now. but whatever.

It is. In DMC1 Mundus says: "Again I must face a Sparda. Strange fate, isn't it?" That means by custom, it turned into a patronymic surname. In that sense, the patron is preserved as without a surname, however, its descendants would use the said name as a surname.
