Started with 800 and grew to 3000 over the course of over a century, I assume
I've read to around chapter 330. I haven't been this disappointed by the way a story developed in a long time. World building is fantastic. Characters are written alright, the author tries to give them depth. MC is an idealistic guy, though too much time is spent writing out his spiral of depressive thoughts...anyway. Friendships were being built, plot was thickening nicely, and then in the span of about 10 chapters, the author just took it all apart. MC goes down a rabbit hole full of wildly out of character decisions- more akin to a Marxist madman than the naive teenager he has been the whole time. One of the likeable/important side characters started getting some nice development, then gets killed off in a forced plot twist, taking with him the reader's hopes for the rest of the story. MC continues on with no critical self reflection, no coping mechanisms that make realistic sense, ethically bankrupt actions that severely misalign with his past traumas and determinations...as far as I can tell, he loses the sympathy of most of the audience and readers start dropping like flies. Author, just what were you trying to do??
For those curious, the verbiage "告状" is used in the context of "reporting something to the authorities/your superior." That's what he is saying Xiao Wan is doing. Complaining- in the grumbling, whining sense- would've been the words "抱怨."
A more accurate translation would be "So she's here to lodge a complaint..." I don't think the word "merely" is appropriate. At a stretch, it would be an undertone if you said the original sentence dismissively. So don't worry guys, MC is not a chauvinist lol.
"Motorbikes" is an incorrect translation. The original Chinese is "共享单车," which refers to those rideshare bicycles you can rent.
All good things come to an end...such as binge reading 900+ chapters of a great novel in less than two weeks. Great job, author, absolutely killing it. Haven't read a page turner like this in a long time. There's not much to say that hasn't been covered by other reviews? Remarkable character development, world building, pacing, etc. Can't wait to see how the author's vision for this story plays out. No, no. I don't feel like strangling the author for his judicious use of cliffhangers. Not at all.
Theon is Sören. Just a confusing name change.
