Your MC skill set reminds of the the King’s Avatar battle mage class. You might want to check that if you don’t know about it. The class uses a spear and almost all skills have dragon in the name, a good reference for self created spirit skills such as your dragon ascent.

I feel manipulator is most likely, it directly translates from manipulating the force into manipulating nen. ”Manipulator are logical people who advance at their own pace.” Personally, I feel like this is the only nen type personality that can apply because he isn’t simple, prone to deceit, impatient, or high-strung. Specialist is definitely a possibility though. Something similar to the force where he is able to follow the natural guidance of nen. I feel like that doesn’t really fit any of the other categories.

Option 1, this could give an early introduction to Kurapika and I believe fits more with Soren’s instant questioning of the Troupe. Omokage’s hobby is literally collecting eyes, so him questioning the Troupe was completely justified. I would honestly like to see more of the Troupe and this could be used as the entire Troupe going to find out if Omokage is still alive and behind the attack.

I don’t know much about Omokage but he seems like the perfect culprit behind the Kurta Clan massacre. His hobby is literally listed as collecting eyes on wiki. With the current situation I feel like Kurapika could totally become an adoptive member of the Troupe. Kurapika could be a great source of information about the attackers and act as a guide for the Troupe. His potential is definitely high and he could be a good apprentice for Soren.

I really like the fact that you had a representative of the Empire awaken him. It is actually the first time I have seen someone not use Spirit Hall. Fasinuo Province where Tang San was born is one of the closest Provinces to Spirit Hall and it makes sense for then to have a large influence in the region. The Kingdom’s and Empires would be forced to start recruiting young like Spirit Hall in order to remain influential. The monetary support provided by Spirit Hall would likely still attract some individuals but the Empires would try and recruit as many as possible in order to maintain the balance.

The library shows all flaws in writing. Zhang Xuan didn’t have information many times so he wrote down possible phrases until he got the correct one. Such as, “The best starter class for me is Angela,” and he can repeat this until he gets a flawless answer. The best build would also probably contain many secret classes, so when he doesn’t have the name he can write, “I can get my next class by going to Niflheim,” until he finds the location of secret classes.

The library should be able to tell him fight flaws with others so he should be the best at PvP with that. There is no need to cheat. He can also use the library to find the perfect build for himself, there was no need to get a ton of Seraphim to test builds.

This would also make Metamagic the more expensive part of combat. Metamagic might not be super important for PvE as efficiency would be favored more over power. This would be super important for PvP though, having a super high mana cost in order to strike at important times and for lots of damage.

One thing that might work well would be adding values for Metamagic. Such as with a formula (100/n * x/55 + y). n = the level of the caster, this would slowly make spells more efficient as you level up. x = Fibonacci sequence raising for each tier of magic, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55. y = Metamagic modifier with each Metamagic having a different value. Such as Maximize Magic = 1 and Triplet Magic = 5. So a Triplet Maximize Magic for a level 100 player would be (100/100 * 55/55 + 6), This one spell taking 7 mana value to cast. This would also mean that lower tier spells cost less for high tier players, practically being free which I consider fine as they should basically be cantrips for the strong.

I guess I might be looking at if from more of a PvE perspective but I feel that it is pointless having hundred of spells when so few impactful spells can be cast within a fight. I would consider almost all protective spells before the Shalltear fight to be Tier 10 and he likely used up a large amount of his mana before the fight even began.

Mana usage for spells seems to be ridiculous. BBWolf used up 100% of his mana in 2 10th tier spells. In the Prologue it mentions that a normal party will kill a boss in 10-15 minutes. In most RPG’s this would mean spamming all of your strongest spells on rotation for that entire time to maximize damage. I believe that before they even entered Nazarick for the raid they were talking about preserving mana. This should mean that recovering mana is difficult while in a dungeon and your mana pool is constantly decreasing throughout.

That makes sense because Tang San is an assassin at heart. He has an obsessive and single minded personality. There is a definite reason why Tang San and Yu Xiaogang are probably the most disliked characters. It is absolute self-rIghteous pride that they contain.

Independant would be incredibly hard but it would be best for hiding some of his abilities. This would likely require eventual alliances with other factions and would guarantee being antagonistic to Spirit Hall. Spirit hall is probably the best faction with how terrible the empires seem in DD1. This would require trusting Spirit Hall a lot and I would say is something that shouldn’t be done while still young. Pretty much all freedom would likely be removed and while his parents could be protected, they would also serve as hostages if needed. Other factions would be Spirit Beasts, Sects, or Empires but all human factions are just a worse Spirit Hall. Spirit Beasts certainly has potential but it would likely be the hardest to write and develop in a logical way.
