in that scenario, if a weak person doesn't realize the situation and gets into trouble for another weak person and ultimately dies, it doesn't change anything. whether they live or not, they won't be able to help stave away the destruction of their sect/land because they're too weak to do anything. it's not about being heroic, it's about prolonging your time and not wasting your life where the results will be fruitless
