I think that would backfire. The most probable outcome would be that Harry is seen as shielding his brother’s flaws, and in the end, it could be quite problematic for Harry. After all, Harry and Snape have managed to go through two years without paying much attention to each other, beyond a barely existent teacher-student relationship.
