Unsupported random Thought : Cassi went back to the tomb with Sunny and Nephis when they will be stronger in the futur and she is the one that makes everyone forget about Sunny in the nightmare for a reason we will learn later.

I agree with you and that’s why I find the « rock frozen mid air » a problem. In my own perception of time stop it should be only « life » that is frozen. But that not the case here and is for me a plot hole, still it’s very inconsequential and this help painting a very cool image of the city

I think the « cruel beast » is the soul vision of the life of Derek. It start by him getting beaten by his father, then he start to fight back, after that he is apathique but nothing really happen until his brother got killed in a car accident « the young noble » and « the cadaver » after that he caught the noble and tortured him. But I wonder why they merged 20 years latter and why the stories are in parallel and not following each other

You’re right about that he can lie if he think that he knows the truth. But in the case of a promise I think that he’ll need to really believe it to make it and in this chapter is like « oh I can promise this and go back on my word later » and for me that’s a lie
In any case, if something went wrong, he would always be able to leave Clan Valor behind. Pledges of allegiance did not mean anything to Sunny, after all. As a person who abhorred the word honor, he was more than willing to betray any promise he made as long as it suited him.
