the man* .. single not plural.. could describe the direction of the elbow hit. I assume he is behind him? I assume if behind it would be a reverse elbow. as a horizontal, downward, upward, spearing, dropping and spinning elbow are generally a forward action toward a target. ✌️

could replace the first word nothing with a description of nothing. i.e. no hills, slopes no rocks or grass, just a boundless emptiness stretching as far as I could see.
