Try Out

The zombies kept slapping and trying all they could to break the glass. They were thankful it was a tinted glass. Their hearts finally settled down a bit.

Binna punched Smith on his face hard causing him to stumble backwards a bit. "It had barely been an hour we got here and you want to turn us all into zombies." She spatted out angrily.

"I'm so.... "

Justin grabbed his collar and also punched him hard before he could complete his sentence. "What the f**k did you just do out there...?" He barked in fury and his whole body was raging in anger.

Smith had started shedding tears, his hands were entwined on each other and his face facing down. "I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry. Please forgive me. I was really scared to death."

Binna landed him another heavy blow. "If you're so scared you should have just stayed behind." She barked out. "Why did you even decide to do this if you're so scared?" Her body was fueling in another level of anger not able to stand this guy.

"Because of Justin." He ravaged out not knowing when he did. He was just really scared to death and his body was trembling more.

Justin grabbed his collar tightly. "You better start speaking." His teeth glued together in fury and he shrugged him off. Everyone's eyes were fixed on Smith wondering why he mentioned Justin.

"You better start speaking if you don't want me to hand you over to those zombies." Binna spoke in more fury.

"No... Don't..." He pleaded in tears.

"Speak." Justin barked louder.

"Because you're big Justin and I saw you're also strong." His tone filled in fear as he explained in tears.

Binna scoffed. "So you think you can clung unto him like a koala right?" She spatted, disgusted at what he said.

He nodded and Justin landed a heavy blow on his face causing him to bleed. He grasped him on the collar again. "Let me sound this as a warning to you. In this battle filed, every man for himself. Don't think of sticking to me or the next person." He shrugged him off again.

"We...We all agreed that no one leaves anyone behind."

Justin was just about landing another punch on him as he said that, but Kim's hand patted on his shoulder, giving him the look 'let me handle the rest.' Justin gave way to Kim after understanding what he meant. Kim's strong fist landed on Smith's face.

"You're crazy you know." He barked. He could no longer control his anger anymore as Smith said that. "The hell....What the heck do you think. To stick on him or anyone else in this hot field we are in?"

Binna tugged Smith's hand very tight. "He's of no complete use to us. He'll surely put us more in danger in the future. It's best if we just give him out to the zombies."

He went on his knees, crying and pleading more. "Please.....I don't want to turn into a zombie. I promise....I promise I won't cause any troubles for any of you anymore. I beg you."

Justin kicked him hard on his stomach and he fell back. He just walked away to one corner. The rest just sat down trying to clam themselves not to fully beat Smith to death.

"We'll spend the night here." Justin spoke, preparing himself to sleep.

Binna glared hard at Smith again before adjusting herself to sleep. The tension and the atmosphere suddenly became calm. In no time, they all dozed off.

FOLLOWING DAY:

"How do we get out of here?" Justin asked.

All of them were also having similar question plastered on their faces. It will be impossible using the front door. The zombies are still right outside waiting on them. Justin ordered all of them split out to find a way out.

"Here." Kate spoke after seeing a place.

They all rushed to where she was. It was the back door.

"Stay here." Justin spoke.

He carefully opened the door and went out. When everywhere was clear, the rest followed behind him. They had no idea where they were heading to but they hoped it lead the place to the capital city. Their journey had just begun. They followed a path where there was no zombies.

"I'm so tired." Binna spoke.

They've been walking the whole day non-stop and it was now afternoon.

"I think we should take a break, I'm also tired." Kate spoke weakly.

"Okay everyone, we take a break." Justin spoke and they immediately fell on the ground.

Kate brought out water from her bag and gulped down a little, passing it to the rest. They were really thirsty.

"This is gonna be a long day. I think we should use a vehicle." Binna spoke.

"They're really sensitive to sounds Binna and they also see clearly at daylight. It's impossible for us to use a vehicle." Kate spoke.

"We can just drive them off."

All of them turned their head to the direction of a truck, parked close to them.

"See... There's even a truck here." Binna spoke getting up.

"Wait." Justin stopping her. "We first need to try it out."

"Then fine, let's get in."

"That's not what I mean. Look, those things are really fast. We'll use the vehicle as a try out to see how fast they can catch up with the vehicle. If they can catch up with the vehicle within two to three minutes, it's impossible for us. But if it extends, then we can use the vehicle."

"I get it now." Kim spoke.

"So who's gonna ride it?" Binna asked.

"Who spoke about who was going to ride it, when we have that." Kim spoke referring to a big stone close to the truck.

"Good one." Justin spoke.

Justin went and opened the truck. The key was still in the key hole. Now they prayed it worked. He tried to start the truck but it made a faulty engine sound. He tried again and it still made same sound.

"C'mmon baby." Referring to the truck. "Just..... Yes...." His face filled with excitement as the car started. Everyone smiled in relief.

Kim came over and kept the heavy stone on the accelerator pad. In no time, the truck started moving on its own and they hid in one corner watching the truck go. Some of the zombies had already appeared hearing the sound of the moving truck and started chasing after it. In less than ten seconds, hundreds of them chased the truck and they successfully managed to get to the truck under one minute.
