Chapter 39: Security And Setups

"Jixi what do you want to do now?" Gantian asked.

"Let wait until Yiming is awake."

"Okay."

After sitting on the chair for almost for three hour, Gantian was getting bored out of his mind.

Finally just as Gantian was about to go take a walk, Yiming finally woke up.

"W-water." Jixi brought out his water bottle to Yiming as he weakly spoke out.

After taking a sip, Yiming looked around and realized he's in a building.

"Where are we?" Yiming asked.

"At an small town right now. How are you feeling right now Major?"

"Me? I can barely feel my feet right now. They really fired on us when we're retreating didn't they?" Yiming groan in pain as he touches his bandaged stitches.

"I am afraid so... I think they wanted to cut their losses." Jixi looked downed as he replied back.

"Corporal Jixi, Private Gantian. You two are to be immediately granted with honorable discharged from military duty." Yiming yelled out.

"W-wait what? Sir you can't do this." Gantian pushes back.

"Do you want to go back to go on a hopeless search again? You guys can go back, I am not going back." Yiming looked determined.

"But sir isn't this desertion?" Jixi joined Gantian side.

"So what? The moment they fired on us, they will all think we are dead. Beside, I was suppose to retire few weeks ago if it wasn't for this damn outbreak." Yiming moved his leg with his hand to lay down more comfortably.

"What is the soldier's duty?" Yiming suddenly yelled out.

"Listen to command sir!" The two saluted.

"Am I not your superior?" Yiming yelled back.

"Sir! You are our superior!" The two replied.

"Then I dismiss you two from military duty effective immediately. No more question." Yiming lay back down on the bed.

Thee two let go a sigh of relief as if they didn't want to go back but just didn't want to admit it.

"Anyway which town are we in?" Yiming asked.

"We are at Luoping community right outside the city outskirt. Its right around here." Jixi took out his map and pointed.

"This is too close to the city, we can't stay here for long if there isn't any defense." Yiming commented.

"Well the people in the town seem to had built a wall. They even had some pitfall traps and spikes outside the walls." Gantian replied.

Suddenly Yiming's stomach growls.

"I haven't ate for almost an entire day, they can't even give us more than a day ration." Yiming complained.

"Sir let me go call for food." Gantian took out his phone and called Xiaoyun.

"Hello? This is Xiaoyun."

"This is Gantian, can you bring some food here?"

"Of course, I'm coming right away." Xiaoyun hung up the phone.

"Who is this Xiaoyun person?" Yiming asked.

"He's the leader of this settlement I think." Gantian replied.

"Hm..." Yiming mind started thinking.

Few minutes later, someone knocked on the door.

Gantian opened the door and it was Xiaoyun carrying a bag.

"Here's the food." Xiaoyun handed him three container that was still hot.

"Major here's the food." Gantian handed the three container to Yiming.

"Oh hello um mister major." Xiaoyun looked over to see someone laying on the bed.

"You are Xiaoyun?" Yiming only accepted one container from Gantian.

"Yes I am Xiaoyun."

"I wanted to ask you something mister Xiaoyun, would you be kind enough to accept us as citizen to this town?" Yiming asked.

"W-what? Major Yiming why would you say this?" Gantian looked surprised what Yiming just said.

"Um, of course, we accept anyone as long as they followed the rules...You guys can are perfect as security guard at the entrance." Xiaoyun suggested.

"That a deal then... Gantian and Jixi, thank him." Yiming push the two.

"B-but why woul——" Jixi interrupted Gantian as he bowed down and thanks Xiaoyun.

"Just listen to Major Yiming and do it." Jixi whispered and pushed Gantian to bow down as well.

"Well then, you guys can visit around the town, although this is a little far from the town center. Here's ten food stamps, you guys can go to 302 to trade food with it. Tell Yezi for salary, he usually at the security room. And here's his phone number." Xiaoyun handed a piece of paper and the food stamps.

"Also you guys only have to guard the back entrance. It just right outside 310 down the road." After Xiaoyun finish explaining, Xiaoyun left the house.

The three started eating the food inside the container.

"Major Yiming, why did we join them?" Gantian asked.

"He generosity is rare in this apocalypse. Would you help a stranger that you don't know and risk letting them in? Especially when the stranger has guns. This man either has insane amount of confidence or he's just naive. But I doubt that the case."

"The way he talked and act feel extremely calculated, it barely matches the age and face. But he seem truthful in his generosity, which confuses me..." Yiming paused for a second.

"Beside, we have nowhere else to stay, might as well stay here. He was nice enough to even give us hot food. Which mean they have enough food at least for a while... You two remember how the food situation was like back in base right?" Yiming finally finish speaking.

"I guess you are right Major Yiming." Gantian looked confused but after hearing the last part, he immediately agreed.

Jixi nodded in silent.

"Anyway, don't call me major anymore. Just call me Yiming. Before you argue, that is my final command. I'm going to sleep now." Yiming put the container away and lifted the blanket up.

"Yes sir!" The two give a final salute as they walked out of the house.

As Xiaoyun drove toward back home, he decided to take a turn and drove toward the construction site.

After he arrived at the construction site, he could see several chopped log being carried into the bus and drove off.

"How is it going?" Xiaoyun walked towards Jingming.

"It going to take at least two more week to get all these out of the way... Oh hey boss." Jingming turned around and realized it was Xiaoyun.

"Look like there a lot less worker here, what happen?" Xiaoyun noticed an significantly less people.

"Most of the women left to go farm in the field at 308 since it is a lot less work and only pay one less food stamp, only the guys stay behind to work here to earn more." Jingming replied.

"I see... do you need more people?"

"No, I think this is a good pace, everybody is getting used to working here. Although its kind of weird for some of them working here."

"What do you mean by that?" Xiaoyun asked.

"Well, some of them are teachers, firefighters, doctors. But they all working here in construction rather than going to do something more useful with their skills." Jingming replied

"Hm... maybe we need a census to allocate people in the right place. But for now I think we need to continue this until we finish the wall." Xiaoyun commented.

Jingming nodded in agreement.

"Oh yeah speaking of wrong people working here, boss did you ask Miss Yunyun to work here?" Jingming asked.

"Hm? No wonder why she is always so tired when she came back home." Xiaoyun laughed.

"Boss do you want her to continue working here then?"

"Yeah let her, she can do whatever she wants. It's only first few weeks... I mean its good training for her." Xiaoyun realized he almost slipped out.

"Um... boss can I ask you a question? Y-you won't get mad right?" Jingming voice started to sound nervous.

"Yeah I won't mind. What is it?"

"I-is it true that y-you are marrying y-your m-mom and s-sister? Everyone s-seem to be t-talking about i-it." Jingming's voice started to stutter.

"You will know after two weeks." Xiaoyun and Yunyun waved at each other as Yunyun noticed Xiaoyun.

"Anyway I'm going to go now. You are doing a great job Jingming. Keep it up." Xiaoyun patted Jingming on the shoulder and left.

Two week has passed.

The trees was finally cleared out of the way as the wall can now began to construct.

Yiming's leg heal much quicker than expected as he could start walking again, albeit needing Jixi to support him as he walked.

The people at first was scared of the three soldier, but Yiming pushing the two to talk with the town's people. Eventually the townspeople was no longer afraid of talking to them.

Beside the soldiers, Xiaoyun and Yezi had been driving the car outside and coming back with the car completely full of food. Making everyone thinking that the two just looted an entire storage facility. In reality Xiaoyun was just creating them.

Xiaoqi, Yanyan, and Yunyun took a break from their jobs for three days now as they started to plan their wedding.

As the stages and tables are set, the only thing missing was the wedding dress and the ring.

Fortunately Xiaoyun was able to create the old wedding dress Yanyan used to wear as well as the ring and gave it to the three.

"This is so tight." Yanyan could barely fit inside it as her pairs has grown much bigger than in the past.

"Luck for me, this perfectly fits." Xiaoqi laughed.

"T-this keep falling off... I never knew mom wear this big of a size." Yunyun mumbled the last part.

"Don't worry let me just tie this string for you." Xiaoqi tied the string more and it was finally not falling off.

Yiyi walked in and saw the three.

"Are you ready?" Yiyi asked.

"Yeah we are ready." Yanyan replied.

"Okay let me go tell Yezi." Yiyi closed the door.

Outside on the stage.

Yezi was standing outside holding a microphone as everyone sat down on their assigned seats.

"Hello everyone, I'm Yezi, the co-mayor of this town. Today my brother Xiaoyun, is getting married."

The crowd clapped.

"I know there has been many rumors that our mayor Xiaoyun is marrying his... mom and sister. Well I'm here to confirm that... the rumor is true."

As soon as Yezi finished talking, the crowd started chattering and whispered to each other.

"I know this is hard for people to accept, but all I ask everyone is to be understanding. We all seen those local newspaper where some dude marry someone and it turned out to be his long lost sister right?"

The crowd seem to had quiet down.

"Xiaoyun has been an orphan for almost his entire life. Is it really that wrong for him to fall in love with them more than family love?"

The crowds started chattering and whispered among themselves as they are discussing if it is right or wrong.

"Both side had consented, who does it hurt? Has Xiaoyun forced any of you to be his women or abused his power?"

The crowd fall back to silent.

"I know I'm not that intellectual or knowledgeable. But even I know there's has always been a saying 'rather demolish ten temples than destroy one marriage'. Do you guys want to be that guy?"

The crowd finally didn't chatter again.

"I had seen them love each other very much. I am not going to allow anyone to break it, anyone who disagree is going to——" Xiaoyun interrupted Yezi before he could draw his gun out.

"Its enough. Thank you Yezi." Xiaoyun takes the microphone and pushed Yezi back downstage.

"Sorry everyone... I disappointed you all. I know this is wrong but I am going to give them the wedding they deserved.

All I can ask for is for your acceptance and support." Xiaoyun bowed down to the crowd.

One person from the crowd decided to speak up.

"Mister Xiaoyun its fine... You don't have to be so sorry like this. We all understand, we can see you are genuinely in love... Everyone deserved to be happy."

Baiqun, who was rescued by Xiaoyun in the past decided to speak up.

The crowd sudden started applauding in support and cheered as soon as Baiqun finished speaking.

"T-thank you all!" Xiaoyun wiped the tear off of his face.

"Here comes the brides!" Yiyi suddenly yelled out as the three walked out.

Xiaoyun face as well as the crowd was in complete shock when he saw the three walking out.
