The next day was a Saturday. For Zoey it meant no college, more sleep. She'd normally sleep to her heart's content during the weekends. She didn't have many activities to do on a weekend apart from the times they'd go out with Ria and Liam or sometimes her boyfriend, Miles Griffin.
She was rather an antisocial and reserved girl thus didn't have other friends apart from the three.
Whenever they weren't together she'd spend day locked up in her room alone, reading some romance webnovels or binge watching her favorite Netflix shows and movies. As boring as it may sound, well that was her life and she quiet enjoyed it sometimes. But that wasn't the case a couple of years ago...
Unfortunately, she wasn't going to have her way for the day.
Her beauty nap came to a halt due to a series of loud knocks on her door. Her eyes blinked slowly before they flew open.
" Sister, please open up, why is your door locked? Grandpa wishes for you to join us for breakfast. "
A sweet voice was heard outside the closed door before the series of knocks continued.
Zoey frustratedly scratched her messy hair lowly cursing, " what the hell, who the f*uck are they kidding? "
She groaned and threw the blanket over her head trying to get back to sleep.
" Sister are you still sleeping? Do you want to keep grandpa and grandma waiting? Wake up and open the door. "
The voice grew even louder almost piercing Zoey's ears in the process. Deep creases formed on her forehead and she shouted at the person outside the door in anger.
" Stop shouting at my door early in the morning. I'll be there in a while. "
The person outside paused for a while before she softly replied, " okay sister, I'll explain to grandpa that you didn't mean to oversleep. I'll get going now. "
Zoey rolled her eyes a contemptuous smile lingering on her red lips.
" Pretentious people. "
She mocked the owner of the sweet but cunning voice, Jamie Tanner, her elder cousin.
She lied on the bed for a while before rolling over and yawned while stretching. After a quick soothing warm shower, she climbed downstairs for breakfast with her so called family.
Everyone was already settled at the expensive wooden dining table. She took her time climbing down the stairs as the servants were busy serving the breakfast for the family.
They looked jovial, till they laid their eyes on her.
Zoey silently scoffed observing their bright faces darken and the numerous frowns that were obvious to the eyes.
Weren't they the ones who unnecessarily disturbed her sleep?
She didn't invite herself. She would have been busy taking her nap and then come down to eat when everybody else was gone to their respective places if her face was that irritating to their eyes.
" Do you think you're still some kind of a princess, why should everyone wait for you? For whom are you displaying your arrogance?! "
A middle aged woman snarled at her with a scornful glare.
She was her aunt, Iris Tanner, Jamie's mom. Her husband, Mark Tanner was her ( Zoey) dad's elder brother.
The two had 2 kids, Jamie and Jasmine. They were 21 years old twins, though not identical and were in their third year in the same college that Zoey attended, Brooklyn University College.
They didn't have another sibling as Iris had once suffered a miscarriage in an accident that destroyed her womb making her unable to ever bear children again.
Zoey almost rolled her eyes when she heard her aunt's words.
Really? Waiting for her? Were they waiting for her while eating?
She emotionlessly sneered and pulled out the farthest chair from the loving family not willing to destroy anyone's appetite with her unwelcomed presence.
Her indifferent expression indicated that she was already used to it as it wasn't a one time thing. She was already immune to everything that happened around.
She glanced at her quiet grandparents and greeted, " grandpa, grandpa. "
The two elders nodded without showing much emotions. Nevertheless, she expressionlessly picked up her cutleries not minding their distant treatment.
Being ignored, her aunt fumed but before she could raise her voice, her uncle suddenly slammed his fork on the white ceramic plate making a startling sound.
" Brat! Have your manners been eaten by the dogs? "
The man was glaring at her with a dark face as if he was ready to shred her into pieces at any second.
