Brooklyn University Beauty contest (1)

The weekend was over pretty quick and soon it was Monday.

Zoey, Ria and Liam were headed to the school cafeteria for lunch. They only had a single class on that day which ended early in the afternoon.

" What's up, everyone is crowded there? "

Liam suddenly voiced out.

When the two girls glanced at where he was pointing, they saw a large group of people crowded at the school's official notice board.

" Must be an important notice, should we take a look? "

" Sure. "

Zoey nodded at Ria's question.

" Mr& miss Brooklyn University Beauty contest! AAHH!!! Zoey this is what you've been waiting for, this is your chance!! "

Ria squealed shaking Zoey's shoulders enthusiastically. Her eyes were twinkling, smiling from ear to ear.

" Ria's right, you shouldn't let this pass you again. Give it a try. "

Zoey blinked her eyes at Liam biting the corner of her lips.

Gosh, she was nervous as hell. She knew she wanted it so much but...

" I don't know... "

Ria smacked her own forehead. She was starting to get frustrated with her. Before she could open her mouth, an excited shrill assaulted their ears.

" Oh my goodness, Jamie I'm sure you're going to win this!! I can't believe I'm looking at the next Miss Brooklyn University title holder! "

Jamie tucked some loose strands of hair at the back of her ear bashfully smiling at her friend's loud voice. She shifted glances all round the area trying to see the reactions of those who had heard Hayley, her close friend.

She might have not been the prettiest girl in college but she was quite confident with her looks. She knew she was pretty, one of the prettiest in college. She was sure that she had the capability to win the contest.

" Don't be too overconfident... "

Her lips moved as if she wanted to say more when with the corner of her eyes she spotted a figure she detested from her heart's core. Her stupid and gullible cousin.

She raised her eyebrows then her heart skipped a beat seeing the longing in her cousin's gaze.

She bit her lower lip with darkened eyes anxiously thinking, ' no no no I can't allow her to compete. Never! '

She marched towards Zoey wearing a bright smile on her face.

" Little sis, are applying for the contest? "

She sounded very innocent with her soft voice and tender smile.

The group almost rolled their eyes unisonly, glancing at her thick skinned face.

" And what's your business whether I apply or not? " Zoey questioned nonchalantly.

" Hey why are you being mean to her, she just asked a polite question. "

Hayley snapped defending her friend.

She was an average looking girl in her early twenties, slightly older than Jamie and had nothing attractive in her.

Jamie's close friend?

She was more of an underling than a friend. She followed her everywhere for the financial benefits she enjoyed and the attention too that she received from people because of her.

Whereas she did all the dirty work for her, Jamie was the pretty angel who never did anything wrong in people's eyes.

Zoey shifted her gaze towards her with a blank face without responding.

' I don't talk to fools ' was written all over her face.

Being ignored, Hayley's face reddened in embarrassment as her cheeks burned when she observed the ridicule written on Zoey's face. Ria burst into laughter adding fuel to the fire.

She was about to snap when Jamie held her back by the shoulder.

" Sis, have I wronged you? I was just asking, you know, I'm worried you'd be disappointed since grandpa and dad would be against you... "

She paused, putting on a face full of empathy.

" Hahahaha... Some people really deserve a number of Oscars. "

Ria blurted out trying to control her laughter. The pretentious bitch looked so real with her pitiful face that she almost believed that she cared for Zoey if not for the fact that she ( Ria ) knew that she was an old demoness.

She was probably afraid of competing with Zoey in the contest. Their looks were far apart.

Liam pinched Ria's waist observing Jamie's unmasked anger in her dark eyes and her clenched jaws.

" Zoey you're very much aware of what would happen if you go against dad's rules. You are not allowed to compete with me for anything! Do you dare risk being sent packing to the streets? "

Jamie asked slightly raising her voice. She was annoyed that their stupid puppet was starting to go against the grain. In the past she never defied their orders.

Having heard enough of the drama, Zoey gestured her friends preparing to leave. She paused and indifferently turned to her cousin.

" You don't have to worry too much. I won't. "

" What?!!! "

Ria furiously snapped at her face. She couldn't believe that Zoey would let her life dreams down the drain for the sake of not offending those blood sucking family members of hers. She must be muddleheaded.

Ria felt like giving her a painful knock on the head to serve as a wakening call for her.

Zoey caught the incoming hand midair and pushed her to leave.

Watching them leave, Jamie smirked victoriously. The bitch was still a stupid fool after all...

" What if she's just pulling your leg? "

Hayley voiced out gazing at the disappearing figures.

" Haha... as if she dares. She's not that stupid to risk offending my parents, else she'd be sent packing. "

Jamie laughed away mockingly.

" I can never allow that bitch to take my place. Everything that belongs to her will forever be mine. Everything. "

A mysterious dark glint flashed across her eyes before she chuckled. Hayley joined her in the laughter.

" You have to do everything possible to win. Not only will you get a lot of money, you'll be famous all over the country and abroad! "

She excitedly added.

Jamie gave her a pleased smile and said, " you're flattering me so much. Besides, I'm not sure whether I will win. What if Sophie joins the contest again? You know it's almost impossible for her to lose to anyone. " She clenched her fists as she finished.

Sophie Reid was the current beauty queen in the college. She had bagged the award two consecutive times since she entered the contest 2 years ago. As long as it came to her, Jamie wasn't optimistic about winning since defeating her was really challenging.
