113 Chapter 113: Chasing Death

The sound of dripping water rippled through the pitch-black dungeon until the dripping was abruptly cut off by maniacal laughter. 

" HAHA, alright. "

Mute released his hand off Ogi Zenin's shoulder before he turned around and walked away from Ogi whose heart was still beating rapidly. Ogi stared at Mute trying to slow down his heart. He tried to calm his breathing, but his heart kept on beating rapidly. As a matter of fact, his heart rate was only increasing. 

His heart was beating so fast that it could be heard throughout the dark dungeon. The beating continued until Mute grinned and glanced back at Ogi.

" You know for a Zenin, your control of cursed energy is quite lackluster. "

Mute said, before Ogi Zenin could react a powerful cursed energy seeped deep into his heart chambers and rapidly shrank. Blood spewed out of Ogi's mouth as he stumbled back in agony. Ogi reached towards the scabbard on his waist before flicking out his katana but as soon as he unsheathed his blade.

His head was cleanly sliced off. Blood spewed out of his neck like a crimson waterfall while he flopped onto the cold floor like a fish. Mute glared at Ogi's corpse while scoffing and vanishing...

Just above the dungeon, Mai could be seen kneeling on one knee with a horrified look on her face. The horrified look was from being teleported by Mute. It was the first time she had felt such powerful energy engulf her. 

Mai had been kneeling on one knee ever since she was transported to the surface. Even if her hands were shaking and her body was trembling, she wouldn't move. Because she feared that if she moved, Mute would kill her. In her mind, Mute is nothing but a deranged murderer who kills for nothing but pleasure. 

Which is a wise judgment. Mute had lost their sanity a long time ago. The chilling breeze blew Mai's black hair wildly as she stared at the falling snow directly in front of her. The snow fell rhythmically like a perfected opera until it suddenly stopped and flickered being replaced by Mute who was glaring down at her. 

The snow falling on top of Mai's shoulders might have been freezing however, the mere feeling of Mute's black eyes locking onto her body was far colder. Mute stared at Mai before he spoke.

" You wish to ask me a favor correct? So tell me what it is. "

Mai gritted her teeth as her hands trembled with fear. She took a single deep breath before speaking in a bold voice derived from her fear.

" I want you to protect Maki. "

As soon as Mai said this overwhelming killing intent engulfed her body making her drop her head. She stared at the snow before she spoke again. 

" I will serve you if you promise to keep Maki safe. "

Even with her saying this, in the corner of her eyes, she saw Mute's right hand begin to twitch. She looked over towards his hand until the air warped around her and her neck was transported into Mute's palm. Mute held Mai in the air, as he glared into her eyes, Mai's fear was expanding rapidly. After a few seconds, Mai's body started to shake uncontrollably. Seeing her shaking body, Mute let out a grin before he suddenly released his hand from her neck making her drop onto the ground snowy ground back first.

Mai stared up at Mute breathing heavily and holding onto her bruised neck. She rubbed her neck as Mute spoke. 

" You know most people have a heart attack when I do this. But you managed to keep your composure and even spoke again. Very impressive but if you want me to protect Maki, make a binding vow with me. "

Mai looked up at Mute and nodded but before she could speak. Mute spoke once again while crouching getting directly in Mai's face.

" I promise to protect Maki's life with all my abilities. If you promise to serve me, however, you can't speak to anyone in the Zenin clan or anybody else besides me. This means in the eyes of your sister, you would have betrayed her leaving her in the Zenin Clan by herself. And if Maki ever tries to attack me you will have to defend me. "

Mai pondered, thinking about the bonding vow Mute had just offered her before she let out an eerie grin and nodded agreeing to the conditions of the vow. After seeing Mai nod her head, Mute just grinned and extended his hand out grabbing onto Mai's shoulder before he spoke. 

" I hope you are ready to chase death with me. "...
