9 Chapter 9

— Two Weeks Later —

*Ding* *Ding* *Ding*

Noise from my PDA woke me up. I grabbed it and saw there was a text from Wisteria.

[Good luck in the Promotional Exam]

[Thanks, You 2 :)] I wrote back before I yawned and got out of bed.

The two of us had been texting and chatting for the past two weeks, although that did get me the ire of many guys. Not that I cared.

During the past two weeks, I have also updated my deck quite a bit, it is a lot more competitive now and does not over rely on the same stable cards. Although it did cost me quite the penny.

Name: Konami Kujo

Age:15

Date of Birth: January 19, 1989

Occupation: Duel Academy Student

Dormitory: Slifer Red

DP: 8,600

W/D/L: 39/0/0

*sigh* Duel Monsters are expensive as fuck. Unless you were buying cards with common rarity or cards from Starter Decks, you should be ready to pay a pretty penny. I have only bought 3 'Rare Cards' so far which basically destroyed my budget.

I looked at the time, 08 : 10! We only had 20 minutes before the exam started, but the alarm clock should have woken us up 40 minutes ago!

"Drake you up?!" I asked out loud and saw that he was not in his bed. "What the fuck?" I asked as I saw the alarm clock had its batteries removed.

My eyes widened in surprise "That Fucking Cunt!" I exclaimed as I put the pieces together. Drake was trying to sabotage me so that he would have an easier time getting into Ra Yellow. "THAT FUCKING CUNT!" I shouted out loud once more as I grabbed my deck box from under my pillow.

I quickly looked through every card in it, made sure the cunt hadn't messed up my hard work. "... Everything looks fine," I said before I quickly got dressed up. If he had messed with my deck I would have broken every bone in his body, screw the consequences.

I grabbed a chocolate wafer and then rushed towards the exam hall.

======

-- Exam Hall 15 Minutes Later --

"I- huff- huff- I made it," I said as I tried to catch my breath. I then looked around and saw Drake and send him a look that said 'I won't forget this'

I walked towards an empty seat that is close to Syrus. "Yo Sye, where is Jaden?" I asked him as he wasn't here, I knew he was likely gonna be late helping Miss Dorothy.

"I tried to wake him up, but he was still asleep when I left," he said and I nod my head "Why were you late?"

"Let's just say my roommate is an asshole and leave it at that." I said as I took a seat next to him. I then sent Wisteria a wave and a smile which she returned.

"Alright everyone, settle down," Banner spoke as he pet his cat, Pharaoh. He checked that everyone had quieted down, and was sitting before he got up from his seat and gave everyone the exam paper, face down "You have an hour to complete the written exam. This portion of the exam counts towards 50 percent of your grade. You are required to get 60 percent overall, and if you are caught cheating not only will you receive a 0 on your written exam, you will also be exempt from taking the practical exam. You may start…" he checked his watch "... Nya."

======

I flipped the paper open and looked through the entire exam to make sure there were no missing pages and took a quick look at the questions.

There weren't any missing pages, and there were 20 multiple choice questions, 20 short answers, and there were 3 Duel Puzzles, but we only needed to solve one of them to get full points. It looked simple enough.

I wrote my name, student number, today's date, and started the exam.

[Question 1: Which of these is not a Property of a Spell Card?

A) Normal

B) Quick-Play

C) Counter

D) Continuous]

Simple enough, 'C) Counter' should be the answer. That is a property of traps after all.

[Question 2: Which of these cards has the highest attack points?

A) Dark Magician

B) Blue-Eyes White Dragon

C) Cosmo Queen

D) Ultimate Obedient Fiend]

God damn… That last card brings back memories.

I had traded it, and was extremely happy with it as it had incredible attack and defense points, but then I learned about its effect and got super pissed off. It has such a terrible effect which makes its whooping 3500 Attack Points pretty much useless. Regardless, 'D) Ultimate Obedient Fiend' is definitely the correct answer.

The rest of the multiple choice questions were simple enough. Until the last question. Which was a bit of a bummer.

[Question 20: What cards need to be present on the field to activate the Huge Revolution?

A) Ray of Hope, Oppressed People, and United Resistance

B) People Running About, Oppressed People, and United Resistance

C) People Running About, Ray of Hope, and Oppressed People

D) People Running About, Ray of Hope, and United Resistance]

Shit, never even heard any of these cards… And since wrong answers do not cancel out the right ones, I guess 'C) People Running About, Ray of Hope, and Oppressed People'. Hopefully, it will be right.

Before I move to the short answer questions I noticed Syrus was asleep. I hit him on the back of his head.

"What the heck?" he asked as he woke up. Then he noticed where we were and started to worry and quickly resumed his test.

======

Short answer questions seemed to be more challenging.

[Question 21: Write down 3 Special Ways to win a duel]

Okay, I know this one, 'Exodia, Destiny Board, and Final Countdown'

[Question 22: Write down every type of monster]

Okay, first let's make sure which types do not exist yet. I know Cyberse are not out yet, for obvious reasons as they came out in the Link era, and neither are Psychic, and Wyrm monsters, they came out in the Post-Synchro era with tuners.

Okay then, here I go… 'Aqua, Beast, Beast-Warrior, Dinosaur, Dragons, Fairy, Fiend, Fish, Insect, Machine, Plant, Pyro, Reptile, Rock, Sea Serpent, Spellcaster, Thunder, Warrior, Winged Beast, and Zombies'

Before I could read the next question I saw Syrus had fallen asleep again, honestly I have no clue how he can fall asleep like that. I had woken him up once, and I was about to wake him up again when someone else did it for me,

"There's no point in studying to the bone just to doze off, you jerk," Jaden said playfully and woke Syrus up and pissed most people in the exam hall.

"You two want to keep it down? Some of us actually plan to pass this test," Chazz made himself known.

"I always plan to pass, it just does not always go according to the plan," Jaden said as Banner spoke

"Jaden Yuki, come down here and get a testing sheet, you don't have much time left," he said as he continued to pet Pharaoh.

"Be there in a jiff," he said as he walked towards Banner,

Hopefully, Crowler doesn't do the smart thing and pit him against me, or else Jaden might fail both the written and practical exam and get expelled. Or I can just throw the game, but he would probably figure it out and bitch about it. *sigh* (AN: Unless Slifers receive over 40 percent they have to repeat a year. Winning your duel gives 100 percent in the duel portion, and even if you lose you can get some points by showing you put up a fight.)

Anyways, I continued solving the questions, some of them were tough, but do-able, except for the last question. That one was just plain stupid.

[Question 40: How many people are seen in the image of The A. Force?]

Who the fuck cares about that? I … think I know the answer. I used to use that card in my Warrior Deck.

I just wrote down '4', and moved on to the Duel Puzzle section.

======

After looking over the Duel Puzzles I picked the easiest looking one. I was never really good with these, but this one seemed simple enough.

[Your opponent has Doomcaliber Knight and Swords of Revealing Light, as well as 3000 Life Points. You have 3 set cards, Man Eater Bug, Skill Drain, Mask of Restrict, as well as 1100 Life Points. Your hand contains Creature Swap, Breaker the Magical Warrior, and Emergency Provisions. Win the duel this turn.]

Okay,

'I first activate my set trap card, Mask of Restrict, blocking Doomcaliber Knight from activating its effect.

I then summon Breaker the Magical Warrior, which places 1 spell counter on it. I will then activate its effect, remove the spell counter to destroy the Swords of Revealing Light.

Then I'll activate Skill Drain, pay 1000 Life Points, leaving me with 100.

I then flip the Man-Eater Bug, its effect is negated thanks to Skill Drain.

I will then activate Creature Swap, target Man-Eater Bug, and my opponent is forced to target Doomcaliber Knight. Swapping their control.

Finally, I will attack with Doomcaliber Knight and Breaker the Magical Warrior, and win the duel'

… And that's it…

I am done. This should be good enough for me to be promoted after I win my practical exam. Being at the higher level dorms offers great advantages, so getting into Obelisk Dorm is one of my goals.

I just hope I get to beat one of those two cunts…
