19 Chapter 18

Savage POV

I have already determined the boy's capabilities and come to the conclusion that he is quite clever and skilled at using his powers.

His powers, apart from the superhuman physical condition, are mass effect psionics. From the scans I took during his fight with Lobo, his nervous system contains Element Zero nodules which allows him to generate dark matter fields that influence mass, vibration and kinetics of atomic particles albeit in a limited way.

He has to activate his mass effect psionics through physical mnemonics, in other words similar to telekinesis, he needs to use a physical gesture to manipulate mass effect fields, probably due to the need for neurons to fire in a particular sequence sending an electric charge through the element zero nodes in his body so the desired effect is created.

'Hmm, his powers should be able to be replicated but it would require New Gensian technology which I don't require currently'

Also, his powers aren't the most powerful meta-powers I have come across in my long life, versatile but it's not worth antagonizing boy since we already share a close relationship.

His plan of attack against Lobo was adequate. It could have better but I have already identified several weaknesses in his combat operations.

He relies too much on the telepathic female metahuman; Cecily and is not trying to push himself physically.

Another weakness is his avoidance in taking risks. He enjoys being in control of the situation and operations in which he performs, an admirable quality but detrimental in the developmental period of humans, especially metahumans.

It seems I shall train him for a while, although he doesn't trust me, sending him on contract jobs with Lobo should facilitate his growth and help him build the connections I know he wants.

After all, excellence is required from the kin of Savage.

Peter awoke in a dimly lit room, his head throbbing from the impact of Lobo's punch. As his vision cleared, he realized he was in a makeshift infirmary. The sounds of faint murmurs and the sterile scent of antiseptic filled the air.

With great effort, he propped himself up on one elbow, his gaze sweeping the room in search of his teammates. Panic clawed at the edges of his consciousness as he thought of Cecily and the others.

"Cecily," he croaked, his voice weak but filled with urgency. "Where is she? Are they all right?"

Vandal Savage, seated in a nearby chair, looked up from the book he was reading. His expression was unreadable, and his eyes bore into Peter's with an intensity that made the young metahuman uneasy.

"They're all safe, young Shepard," Savage replied in a low, steady voice. "Cecily and the rest of your team are being tended to. You don't need to worry about them."

Relief washed over Peter, and he sank back onto the cot, his energy drained. "Thank goodness. Seeing as you are unharmed you probably planned this"

Peter stared at Vandal Savage with cold eyes.

Savage leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "I wanted you to experience Lobo's strength level firsthand, to understand the kind of opponents you might face in the future."

Peter frowned, puzzled by Savage's motives. "Why? Why are you so interested in me, in training me?"

Vandal Savage's lips curled into a sly smile, and he leaned in closer to Peter, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Peter, my boy, some questions are best left unanswered. Let's just say that I have a long history with your family, and I see great potential in you. The training I offer is an opportunity for you to unlock that potential, to become something more."

Peter's curiosity burned, but he knew better than to press further. There was a depth of mystery surrounding Vandal Savage that he couldn't begin to fathom.

After a moment, he nodded. "Okay, I'll accept your training, but only for a month. After that, I want my team back together, and we'll go our separate ways."

Vandal Savage leaned back, his enigmatic smile never leaving his face. "Agreed, Peter. Welcome to your new beginning."

As Peter settled back onto the cot, a whirlwind of uncertainty and determination swirled within him. The next month would be grueling, but it would also be a step toward unlocking the secrets of his past and forging a path to his destiny.
