Chapter 50: A True Devil

"Shit!" He cursed in frustration and anger as he immediately spread his perception as wide as he could.

He was too focused on asking questions that he didn't keep watch on his surroundings. Less than a second later, he picked up an energy signature on the roof of the opposite building.

It was quite a distance but judging by the accuracy, it was a sniper which would make a lot of sense.

He immediately grabbed the corpse, tossing it into his inventory as he blurred towards the opened window.

"Let's go!" He told Zatanna as he leaped out the window, high into the air. As he got closer to the edge of the roof, it seemed he wouldn't make it but he didn't look worried.

Before he could begin his descent, a semitransparent blue sheet of magic appeared below his feet. Upon landing on it, he immediately pushed forward unto the roof as Zatanna floated behind him.

He could feel the person trying to escape but they clearly didn't know about his ability to sense or they wouldn't have wasted time twisting in different corners.

'I'm not letting you get away!' Sora thought as he sped up quite a bit. He blurred forward, leaving Zatanna in the dust as his voice reached her ears.

"Catch up quickly." And with that, he was no longer there.

Not getting distracted by any stray thoughts, he caught up to the person as they reached the top of another roof where a helicopter was already prepped.

Before they could even get close to the flying vehicle, a kunai flew passed them as they hastily dodged.

They stumbled a bit after the dodge but soon realized that they weren't the target as the kunai dug into the side of the helicopter before exploding.

*BOOM!*

The rooftop shook as the explosion rang out. Sora watched as the shockwave sent his target on their back as he touched down on the rooftop.

"Don't bother trying to escape. You've got nowhere to run." Sora said as the person got to their feet, calmly dusting off their now dusty pants.

"You know, you're persistent. I'll give you that." The man spoke as Sora noticed that the shockwave managed to pull the hood of the outfit down.

He also noted the familiar voice as the man slowly turned around to face him, face fully exposed.

They stared each other down for a few moment as silence reigned.

"You don't seem too surprised…or maybe that's your surprised face." The man said with a dark chuckle.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't see it coming, Kaito." Sora said calmly but the barely restrained fury in his eyes showed how angry he felt.

"How'd you find out?"Kaito asked as he let out a chuckle.

"Two months ago. At the time we first met I was t exactly in the best state of mind. It was only later that it occurred to me. My mother was a pediatrician but she hated surgeries." He said, keeping his tone level.

"Though she was knowledgeable enough to perform surgeries, she swore to never so much as look at another child's bare organs. She knew it was for their own good but she felt it was too inhumane." He explained as Kaito laughed.

"What was the other thing that gave me out?" He asked again, seeing that Sora didn't seem to be finished.

"You said that she visited the hospital on the day you brought her to the hospital. You covered your tracks well, there was even a file about the surgery but you forgot one crucial thing. It was my birthday that day and we didn't even leave the house." Sora ended as his tone turned cold.

At this point Kaito couldn't hold himself as he burst into a fit of laughter.

"HAHAHAHAAHAA!!!" He laughed as hard as he could before trying to get himself under control.

"To think that I would be found out by something like that." He managed to say in between laughs as Sora's anger intensified.

"You're too smart for your own good. If you simply stayed home putting together those toys of yours then we wouldn't have to do this." He said as he turned serious.

"You have no idea what your mother was. She was evil and she was a monster." He said as if pitying Sora.

Black eyes turned blood red as Sora was immediately in front of Kaito with his knee smashing into the man's chest, sending them both down the side of the building.

"Don't talk about my mum like that!" Sora screamed in rage as he rained punches as they made their way to the ground.

Just when they were a few meters to the ground, he aimed a kick at Kaito's face, using it as a foothold to propel himself in the air a bit as the man crashed into the ground as cracks appeared on the floor.

Sora on the other hand, landed softly on his feet as he shook in rage. A laugh came from Kaito who got up like he didn't just fall down from a high building.

"I see. It seems I made a mistake. I thought we stopped her from summoning the demon but we were far too late. You're the demon!" He screamed the last part a bit dementedly as Sora stayed silent but he wasn't done.

"You're the demon and we will purge you from this world!" He screamed like a mad man.

'We?' Sora had a moment of clarity as he immediately noticed what he said. Immediately, his senses picked up other signatures coming down from the sky.

Looking up, he saw a group of people descending from the sky. Each of them was surrounded by a yellow glow but it seemed to glow strongly around one particular woman.

Through his sharingan, he could see the energy was being emitted from her. They descended until they were on ground level, the glow fading from all of them including her.

'Telekinesis? Or something similar to the lanterns ability?' He thought as he looked to Kaito's ear, noting the tiny earpiece in it.

'So these are his allies.' He noted, doing a mental count of them all, Kaito included.

There were 13 of them in total but that wasn't what bothered him the most. Their numbers roughly matched the amount of people that Zatanna mentioned.

"I see. So this is your group of 'Saviors'." Sora said condescendingly as Kaito for the first time seemed genuinely shocked.

"How do you know about that?" He asked as Sora glared at him silently.

"This the kid? He doesn't look all that." One of the men who was bulging with muscles said as he walked forward.

"I told you it was a bit too much for all of us to be here at once." The woman with the telekinesis-like power said dismissively.

"Maybe, but he was able to cripple quite a bit of Tokyo's underworld on his own. Besides, he killed two of the mutations so he careful." Kaito warned as the woman floated in the air, her body glowing.

"I'll make this quick." She said smugly but Sora's eyes didn't leave Kaito's, even when she floated in the air between them.

With a look of irritation on her face, she stretched her hand towards him as she glowed a bit brighter.

Before she could finish whatever attack she was planning, a spear made of ice shot through her chest, causing a large hole to form where her heart was supposed to be.

Sora didn't even spare her a glance as her glow died down before she fell to the floor lifeless, the others looking in shock before looking to see the source of the attack.

"You may beat us in a matter of numbers but we win when it comes to strength." Sora said as Zatanna floated down beside him, a cold look on her face.

Now they were down to 12 people but still Sora had no shred of fear in his bone, only rage.

"She was careless. It won't happen." Kaito said as he moved to stand in front of the others.

Suddenly a change began to happen on his face as horns grew from the sides of his forehead and his canines grew to the point that he could see them from this distance.

His body grew quite a bit as his clothes became full and his skin gained a tiny bit of a red tint as he flexed his grown body.

"Now I may not be in my red suit but I'll show you why they call me the red devil." Kaito said maliciously as he stared at the two kids in front of him with a mad gaze.

"Red Devil? Don't fuck with me!" Sora said lowly, his voice growing louder with each syllable.

Black flamelike patterns began spreading on his skin under the eyes of everyone present. The marks spread until they covered almost every part of his body was covering in it but it didn't stop there.

He looked a bit intimidating as the pattern formed a cross mark on his nose area.

The patterns then lit up, looking like actual flames as they expanded, covering what aspect of normal skin he displayed before turning grey.

His hair turned a shade of blue as its color dulled and grew till it reached his back as its spiky nature became more apparent. The whites of his eyes turned black as he opened his mouth to speak under the shocked gaze of the people around him.

"I'll show you what a true devil looks like!" He roared in rage as two hand like wings tore through the back of his shirt, displaying themselves for the world to see.
