Chapter 3

After Zhang Lixue reported to duty the next morning, she immediately went to see the unconscious patient that had been brought to the hospital the day before. On getting to the ward she was told that the patient had been moved to the VIP ward of the hospital. She passed by some nurses who were discussing this in a hush tone, however she did not want to belittle herself by asking the gossipy nurses about what was going on. She moved to go to the topmost floor of the hospital but before she got there she was paged to go to the Director's office. She turned and made a detour to the Directors office wondering why she had been called.

On reaching the floor that housed the directors office she met with the secretary who asked her to go in directly as the director had been waiting for her.

The Director Wang was on a call but beckoned on her to take a seat. After his call he said, " Dr Zhang I want you and Dr Fang Xi to assist Dr Jiang with the patient in the VIP ward. He is the heir to one of the biggest families in City D.. We carefully selected you and Fang Xi because both of you are from relatively big families and should be able to be professional enough while also bending a little to accommodate the patient and his relatives. You need to be extremely careful in handling this patient till he fully regains consciousness. Depending on his progress he may be transfered out of the country to a bigger hospital but am hoping that we'll be able to handle it all here.

" You two have to work in two shifts twelve hourly, for the next few days to ensure adequate coverage. For this reason there are two empty flats just opposite the hospital, if you want, you can stay there for the duration" he added.

Director Wang also added " I have asked Fang Xi to work out a schedule for you two. A few nurses will be available to assist you." Now do you have any questions"?

"Am alright with the schedule Sir, I'll just go and change into my scrubs.

"Alright if you have any questions or problem in future you can directly let me know" he concluded.

Zhang Lixue stood up and left for the changing room. on her way there she placed a call to Fang Xi to find out about the schedule for taking care of the new patient.

Fang Xi had just completed a roster and so she urged Zhang Lixue to come to the front desk so they could work it out.

Zhang Lixue sighed, she was more interested in managing patients as they come, she didn't want to be stuck with one patient, it could be tricky most especially as he came from a wealthy family. There was nothing she could do though, she did not have the option of rejecting the job. She was not asked but told to do the job. Such was the life of paid staff

She trudge along the corridor deep in contemplation on how she would manage the new patient. She was fortunate enough that Fang Xi was also very hard working at least that was a plus for her.

She got to the front desk where Fang Xi was frowning over a chart, and quietly moved up to her and said, " hello Dr Fang, am here for the schedule".

Fang Xi looked up slowly and said "right, please take a look if you are not happy with the roster just let me know."

Zhang Lixue took a quick look at the roster and said 'it's fine,". "Can I have a copy please".

" Okay just hold on a bit let me get you a copy," replied Fang Xi.
