Yggdrasil’s Developer

The story follows a man that was reincarnated into the future, or so he thought. Instead, he was reincarnated into the world of Earth 2138, where he found a job as a developer for a game. "Hmm, I must have seen this game idea somewhere, it seems familiar," "Wait, isn't this Overlord?!?!" Note: Not a plot following fanfic. Rewriting some mistakes made in the early chapters.

E2138-14: In-game

In the starter town in the realm of Midgard, located within the sprawling digital world of Yggdrasil, a lone figure could be seen making his way through the streets. It was a newcomer, easily identifiable by the tattered trousers and frayed tunic that made up his clothing. He was carrying a box of flour, a task assigned to him in the hopes of earning his first experience points.

Despite the knowing snickers and chuckles of other players who deemed such a menial task unworthy, the newcomer remained unfazed. For this was no ordinary player, but rather the cunning and crafty Yuki. And he would never engage in an endeavor that was meaningless.

After delivering the box to the local bakery, Yuki was rewarded with a freshly baked loaf of bread and a modest increase in experience. With a grin, he noticed that the bread was labeled "Leftover" and slipped unnoticed to the back of the bakery. With a deft hand, Yuki stole a fishing rod and made his way to a nearby pond.

There, he cast his line and baited it with the freshly purchased bread. Not a minute had passed when the rod was reeled in, signaling that a catch had been made. To Yuki's delight, he had hooked a fish that was appropriately named "Bread Bard". With a grin, Yuki enjoyed the raw flesh of the fish, a choice that caused a mixture of surprise and amusement from the players who stumbled upon the scene.

But Yuki paid no attention to them. He knew exactly what he was doing and enjoyed the thrill of such a seemingly insignificant yet meaningful act.

Yuki's smile widened as he acquired the coveted passive skill of Poison Resistance, but he was not content to simply bask in his success. He began a frenzied ritual of ravenously devouring fish, much to the bewilderment of passing players, who looked on in disbelief as they saw a wild-eyed man laughing maniacally as he munched on raw fish.

[You had gained a new job class: Fisherman]

[You have Leveled Up! to level 2]

Yuki looked at his character's level with a satisfied grin, having leveled up simply through his voracious consumption of raw fish. He had earned his first job class, Fisherman, a job that many players had ignored.

But Yuki was no ordinary player, for he had once been a developer of this virtual realm, Yggdrasil. He had insider knowledge and a unique strategy, as his goals differed greatly from those of his peers.

Yuki looked at the contents of his inventory, which still contained an abundance of fish bones. He made his way to the blacksmith in the Starter City, and when he arrived at the forge, he approached the blacksmith NPC, who used the remains of the caught fish to forge a formidable Stiff Boned Sword.

Armed with his new weapon, Yuki made his way to the frontier of Midgard, which bordered the frozen tundra of Niflheim. Awaiting him there was a half-golem assassin ninja, who greeted Yuki with a nod as he approached.

"Thanks for the tip on where to get the ninjato, Yuki," Nishikienrai exclaimed. "It was awesome, but a little slow. Still, it was cool and badass."

"I'm glad you liked it," Yuki replied. "I suggest you just use it as a trump card."

"Yeah, I know," Nishikienrai nodded. "It's for bonus damage in sudden attacks. But I hope it's faster."

"It has to be balanced for the game," Yuki explained. "We don't make cheat items."

"Right," Nishikienrai said. "So where is this place you were talking about?"

"Just follow me," Yuki replied. "And can you please protect me while I'm on my way there? I'm only level two."

Nishikienrai raised an eyebrow. "Wait, you just created the account?"

"Yes," Yuki confirmed.

"And now you're level two?" Nishikienrai asked in amazement.

"Yes," Yuki said with a shrug.

"Damn, how? Oh wait...yeah, I forgot who you were for a while," Nishikienrai sighed. "Although it's a pity that you chose to be a human."

Yuki tilted his head. "Hmm, I wonder about that. Anyway, let's go."

"Right after you," Nishikienrai said and followed closely.
