Movies often use real guns as it is incredibly hard to imitate a real guns weight and recoil using a prop gun. Thus real guns can oftentimes be cheaper and more desirable than prop guns. Obviously there are severe risks associated with having real guns on set, which is why there is a weapons master job. Sometimes also referred to as armorer, their job is to supervise all usage of weapons on set.
