1 Existence

Preface

This paper is not the answer to the question of "Why are we here?" nor to answer the true meaning of life itself. This paper merely exists to make the argument for existing.

Forty-six floors down, a blank set of pavement stairs back. An ocean of different tones of grey and black is occasionally dotted with hits of color from the trash that litters the ground below. Your mind is swirling with thoughts, anxiety, and maybe even depression. The world doesn't make sense, nor does your mind. It seems so pointless, the suffering, the pain; it's all so meaningless.

So you take a step, then maybe another. Soon you're on the edge, the edge between life and death, a bridge between everything and nothing, truly nothing. Something that truly makes sense, nothing. There is order in nothing. So you tumble and fall face first on the hard, dirty concrete surface you were just standing over. Nothing, truly nothing.

When some of you imagine nothing, you might think of a black screen, maybe even tv static. But, after the fall you just took, there is nothing truly nothing. Think of it; try to imagine it. You can't; it's impossible because even your thoughts are something.

The world is absurd, endless in possibilities, maybe even realities, But to take your life at your own hands is the admission that the absurd is too much. Too random, too boundless for you to comprehend. Therefore if the world is too absurd and endless, how can life be meaningless? Is there no meaning in absurdity? How Can life be so meaningless yet so largely incomprehensible that it borders the complexity and the absurdness of our universe above?

If life is so meaningless, then death cannot be the answer. Death is as useless and absurd as life. To rob, yourself of life is to rob yourself of the chance of meaning. Meaning not assigned to you by a higher power but by the only force that controls you, yourself.

Exist for the chance of change. Exist for the chance at life. Not the sad life

Nor the happy life But exist to live to change, to die to experience. A life spent despite the void. A life spent to fill the void. The world is a canvas filled with many colors made by many others, and you are a painter, prepared to change and create. The sole decision left now is the elevator or stairs.
